IMPORTANT UPDATE:
2020 MATR HAS BEEN CANCELED

COVID-19 IMPACT

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that due to COVID-19 impacts we must cancel the 2020 Mid-Atlantic Teen Retreat. We will announce plans for the 2021 event as soon as they are made available.

All churches who have made deposits will be fully refunded.

While we’re disappointed to cancel this year’s events, we trust that God will do great things in future MATR events!

Purpose

Our teens are the next generation – the future leaders of our churches and communities. During these moldable years, we believe sound Biblical teaching is fundamental to training these young people to serve the Lord as adults. The Mid-Atlantic Teen Retreat will feature speakers that are energetic and passionate about teaching young people in a manner that honors God in an environment without distraction.

Held at DoubleTree Williamsburg

We have negotiated rates for standard rooms that can hold up to 4 people. Adjoining rooms may be available based on hotel availability, but cannot be guaranteed. Each church can determine how many rooms, how many chaperones per room, and how many adjoining rooms they wish to book. Payment for rooms is made directly with the hotel and is not required until you arrive at the hotel. Please contact the hotel directly with any changes to your room assignments.

The King James Bible will be used for all services.
When is the final registration deadline?
The final day to register your teens is June 1, 2020.
How many people can stay in a single room?
The DoubleTree has rooms that hold between 4 and 6 people, and a limited number of rooms are adjoining. It’s possible to book adjoining rooms for a total of 12 people. There are a limited number of adjoining rooms available, so we recommend booking your room as soon as possible.

Church leaders are ultimately responsible for providing the appropriate number of chaperones per room/adjoining room set and making the appropriate arrangements with the hotel. MATR does not have control over room assignments.

What meals are included?
Several meals are included in the conference rate. As shown in the schedule, a Chick-fil-A dinner and BBQ dinner are provided, as well as lunch while at Busch Gardens. We will also provide a light breakfast that you can keep in your room. Additional food is available for purchase at the hotel’s cafe and restaurant, or you may bring additional food for your youth group.
What type and style of music will be used?
Expect conservative, traditional music including congregational songs and specials.
What is there to do during free time?
Williamsburg is full of activities for everyone! Nearby there are go kart and mini golf facilities, Colonial Williamsburg, outlet malls, a park with kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, etc., Ripley’s Believe It or Not, escape rooms, Historic Jamestown Settlement, and much more! Let us know if you need help with ideas.
What is the total cost per person?
This depends on how tightly you pack your rooms and how many chaperones you bring. Our goal is to make the conference available to teens for under $250 per person. If you book a room with 2 queens and a sofabed, it can hold 6 people for a cost of $440. That’s only $73 per teen, plus the cost of registration ($145 until April 1) for a total cost per teen of $218. The only additional costs are the meals that are not included and activities during free time.
How can we offset our costs?
At Calvary, our teens undergo several fundraising projects throughout the year. First, we print ‘discount cards’ with coupons for local businesses that the teens can sell for a reasonable price. Second, our teens prepare our annual Fall Festival where the proceeds go towards the teen conference. With these two activities, the cost per teen is dramatically reduced and in some years completely covered.

Let us know if you’d like more info on how our teens offset their costs.
